포트 트리거(
Port Trigger)는 포트 포워딩, DMZ설정처럼 공유기에서 서버 설정 시 주로 사용되는 기능으로,
포트 포워딩이나 DMZ가 정해진 내부의 IP주소에 대해서 작동한다면, 포트 트리거는 동적(Dynamic)으로 불특정 호스트에서 포트 트리거에 정해진 Port(TCP/UDP)에 대해 요청이 있는 경우에만 해당 Port를 개방하는 자동설정 방식입니다.
즉 포트 트리거(Port Trigger)는 항상 쓰는 서버 프로그램은 아니지만 외부에서도 접근이 가능해야되는 프로그램을 실행중인 컴퓨터가 내부 네트워크에 다수가 있는 경우에 유용한 기능으로 여러 대의 컴퓨터 중 특정 예약 포트를 감지되면 특정포트를 먼저 사용한 컴퓨터로 사용포트를 포트 포워딩합니다
포트 트리거(Port Trigger)는 특정 데이터 포트를 항상 개방하고 정적 IP 어드레스를 사용하는 포트 포워딩과 달리 LAN 장치의 정적 IP 어드레스를 필요로 하지 않습니다. 포트 포워딩은 다수의 장치들이 한 개의 개방된 포트를 공유하며, 포트 트리거는 오직 한 번에 한 클라이언트만 개방된 포트에 접근하도록 하는 장점을 갖고 있습니다. 즉 평상시에는 막아 놓았다가 필요할 때 필요한 호스트에만 Port를 개방하게 되므로 보안상 유용한 설정방식이기도 합니다.

그러나 일반적으로 서버 프로그램을 위한 공유기 포트 설정 시 예약 포트를 확인하는 프로그램이나 확인하는 방법이 까다롭기때문에 네트워크에 대한 전문적인 지식이 필요한 설정방법으로, 대부분의 경우는 포트 포워딩설정을 주로 사용하게 됩니다.
